Total eclipse.

Thanks to Mel, a text from someone who's number I don't recognise (that could be almost anyone then, given my numeracy levels) and even Barney Bear who doesn't wish to encourage me in keeping odd hours) I was up at three this morning to record the last total eclipse of the moon till 2010.
Even the dog was out there with me until just before it began. While I was waiting for something to become obvious, I took a quick (slow actually) shot of the house bathed in uncanny and fleeting moon radiance from behind wispy clouds.

An awful lot of clouds in fact.
Rather nice ones
Which eventually dispersed and became a general misty effect
And made a bit of a rainbow halo round the last shred of moonlight
Thank you Mel, kind reminding person and Barney Bear :) It would have been a shame to miss the last one for 2 years :)
And now I must go and catch up on some sleep.
Hope you all sleep well :)

Bit less of an obnoxious time for us over here, Mig. And oh, was it beautiful....too beautiful for the camera to catch, apparently. *sigh* No anywhere near as good as photos as you have (go figure!). But oh, what a gorgeous shade of orangey red it turned for us.

You're very welcome, dearheart. LOL I was hoping to reap the rewards of you being up for the event! :-)
And blessings to Barney Bear.

No sleep lost! AND it was a grand showing.

Oh well you know me Mel :) Not always gone before that time of day :) I heard some of the views were orange but ours didn't seem to be. It's always a wonderful and awe-inspiring thing to see though :)

I'm going to go eclipse hunting on Flickr tonight Sorrow :) Can't wait to see all the different views! I'm glad you liked mine anyway - not really much suffering involved, me and the dog like the funny corners of the night :)

Glad you were there to catch it for us Mig. I'd have gone out to see it myself, but for the howling gale, sideways rain, hailstones and so on.

I don't understand Malc :? Surely you can't be saying the weather was a bit too rough for you to spend the odd hour outside at three in the am?

I expect wherever you were it was a funny time of night when the moon eclipsed. Was eclipsed.
Fuertaventura sounds marginally nearer to Europe than to the USA of A :)
Anyway I expect the moons and stars you saw had a magic all their own and quite way beyond the magic available on a freezing February night in the UK :)
I hope so anyway :)

magic indeed, SP and I watched Orion somersault around the moon as he moved from North to South in the sky and went from standing on his hands to one foot!

and I saw a very full moon low in an inky blue black sky to the west about half five one morning, sporadically edged in puffy grey clouds which then were adorned with a bright white trim as they passed below the moon - the grey and the inky blue black were so different from each other that if you'd painted it it would have looked unnatural
